The event is included with admission. Families can spend a day at the Aquarium and enjoy Halloween festivities with a Coney Island carnival feel. Ascarium runs Oct. 21-22 and 28-29 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tickets are on sale now, and members can make reservations.

Enjoy spooky season with photo opportunities in front of a Giant Pacific octopus carved entirely out of foam pumpkins as well as magic shows and costume parades.

“We've designed Ascarium to create unforgettable, family-friendly Halloween activities, just steps from the boardwalk,” said Leigh Ann Clayton, Director of the New York Aquarium. “From our craft tables to the scavenger hunt, Ascarium is a hands-on experience that also incorporates a deeper understanding and appreciation for our oceans’ incredible creatures.”

The scavenger hunt brings guests to various exhibits within the aquarium to learn more about species like piranhas, wolf eels, blood sea stars, spider crabs, and more. These creatures may sound scary, but they are actually play critically important roles in our seascapes.

Other program elements include:

  • Wildlife Theater: Our team presents Augusta C. Lion's Carnival of Aquatic Anomalies, a musical, carnival-style sideshow at the Plaza Tent
  • Costume parade: Guests join in with stilt walkers and puppets outside in the plaza at 12:20pm, 2:20pm, 3:20pm.
  • Halloween crafts: Decorate an aquatic-themed headband to wear at the parade
  • Magic shows: Enjoy animal-inspired magic, sure to entertain the entire family at the Plaza Tent at 12:15, 2:15, and 3:15 p.m.
  • Carnival games: Learn and play while you bust myths about spooky species

WCS members with Aquarium receive free access, though tickets are required. Membership includes admission to the Bronx Zoo, Central Park Zoo, Queens Zoo, and Prospect Park Zoo and helps WCS provide for animals in New York and worldwide. Explore membership options.
