Texas Original Opens North Austin Medical Cannabis Pickup Location, Expanding Access in Central Texas

AUSTIN, Texas , September 27 /Businesswire/ - Texas Original, Texas’ leading medical cannabis provider, today announced its new prescription pickup location opened in North Austin. Located near Cedar Park at 10222 Pecan Park Blvd., the company’s newest location is designed to serve thousands of patients in Austin’s northern neighborhoods and suburbs. The North Austin site is open to patients Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. In the coming months, Texas Original will expand operating hours to six days per week.

The North Austin location is Texas Original’s fourth in Central Texas, joining the company’s South Austin headquarters and dispensary and other locations in Waco and San Antonio. It will also be the company’s fifth location to offer an in-store experience for patients alongside the South Austin dispensary and Houston, Hurst and Plano permanent locations.

“We are the leaders of medical cannabis cultivation and distribution in Texas, starting with our hometown of Austin. We opened the first public medical cannabis dispensary in the state in South Austin, where we served our first patient in 2018. Since then, we have continued to lead by example, providing the best possible access to life-changing medicine for all eligible Texans,” said Nico Richardson, CEO of Texas Original. “Opening a full-time pickup location that serves our growing community in North Austin and its surrounding suburbs is another step toward creating comprehensive medical cannabis access for all patients throughout Texas.”

To celebrate the opening, Texas Original has partnered with a telemedicine clinic to offer 50 free, one-year prescriptions to North Austin permanent pickup location visitors on a first-come, first-served basis. Prospective patients can visit the location beginning Sept. 27 to book an appointment with the telemedicine clinic’s CUP-registered physicians to receive a prescription for medical cannabis. Clinic appointments can be conducted anywhere, including from the comfort of a prospective patient’s home.

Medical cannabis can be prescribed in Texas to treat conditions including spasticity, neuropathy, PTSD, cancer, epilepsy and hundreds of neurodegenerative disorders. Texans can obtain medical cannabis prescriptions through online clinics or local physicians registered with the Compassionate Use Registry of Texas.

“For 16 years, I struggled with adverse side effects from prescription medication and supplements to treat migraines and seizures,” said Sophia Strother, a Texas Original patient from Hutto whose travel time to pick up her prescription has been cut in half with the opening of the North Austin location. “Medical cannabis gave me the relief I was desperately seeking and has changed my life. My head no longer spins from a range of adverse side effects, and I can vacation with my family and hold a driver’s license—I have control of my life back.”

As the state’s leading medical cannabis provider, Texas Original is committed to expanding patient access to life-changing medicine for communities in every corner of the state. The company has opened several new locations this year, including a first-to-market pickup location in Tyler to serve surrounding East Texas communities, and recently added a Sweet Dreams sleep tincture designed to help patients relieve sleep-related issues associated with qualifying medical conditions. Operating times for all of Texas Original’s local pickup sites across the state can be found here.
