ORMAND BEACH, Fla. , October 02 /Businesswire/ - Elite Learning, a comprehensive online learning destination for licensed professionals, today announced the commemoration of World Mental Health Awareness Month in 2023 with four nursing continuing education (CE) courses offered at no cost for the month of October along with helpful new resources to support nurses in their professional development.

“Nurses have been mentally and emotionally pushed to the limit in recent years, and support for both patient and caregiver mental health is more important than ever,” said Dr. Candace Pierce, DNP, RN, CNE, COI, Senior Course Development Manager, Elite Healthcare. “These free CE courses are our way of raising awareness about mental health and wellness and providing mental health resources to the nursing community.”

Elite Learning’s free CE courses and resources align to the themes of Caring for Yourself and Caring for Others. Redeeming and completing these free courses assists nurses in taking care of their elective CE license renewal requirements while improving their knowledge and patient care.

Following are the specific Elite Learning courses available at no cost to nurses for World Mental Health Awareness Month:

Mental Health Crisis Response

This course describes people at risk for a mental health crisis, symptoms of people who are experiencing a mental health crisis, and strategies to respond to a client who is currently experiencing a mental health crisis. The roles of peer support and community health workers are also defined.

Management of PTSD for Healthcare Professionals

The purpose of this course is to help health care workers in their treatment of patients with PTSD, and to provide early intervention which can include psychological and pharmacological treatment. This course helps to prepare health care professionals to differentiate types of trauma, analyze a patient’s response to trauma, and provide appropriate traditional and holistic treatment options.

Out of Darkness: Symptoms and Treatments for Major Depressive Disorder

This podcast series aims to help healthcare professionals understand the diagnosis of major depressive disorder, common symptoms, and the most severe outcome of suicide to assess risk. Also discussed will be the treatment approaches of the most common antidepressants, the newest medications and some medications under clinical trials, and the use of cognitive behavioral strategies to help a patient with depression.

Facts and Myths About Suicide

Suicide is often one of the most challenging subjects for healthcare providers to broach, yet it is an integral part of patient safety. This podcast series was developed to help healthcare professionals understand the myths surrounding suicide and to provide healthcare providers with strategies to effectively assess if a person is at risk of suicide.
