Partnership Increases Latinos In STEM Field

WASHINGTON – The Congressional Hispanic Leadership Institute (CHLI) has announced a partnership with Hispanic Scholarship Fund (HSF) to provide scholarship support for qualified Hispanic students looking to major in the Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM)  and Business fields.

CHLI is proud to support the HSF in its mission to strengthen our national competitiveness by advancing the college education of Hispanic Americans through a wide range of programs. CHLI’s financial contribution will help Hispanic families and students through community outreach and education, affordability via scholarships, college retention and career opportunities.

HSF supports a successful path for Latinos to attain a college degree - creating an increasingly valuable asset for a stronger, more competitive America in the 21st century. Celebrating its 35th year, the Hispanic Scholarship Fund has awarded over $300 million, resulting in close to 100,000 scholarships to students in need.

CHLI also took part in the HSF 2010 Scholarship Programs Golf Classic in Atlanta, GA by providing scholarship funds to benefit the event.  The Golf Tournament was held October 14th, at The Hamilton Mill, a Fred Couple Masters Champion design Canongate Golf Club.

“CHLI is pleased to provide financial support through The Hispanic Scholarship Fund for this important initiative. Today, more than ever, we need to increase the number of STEM majors among our Hispanic university students so our nation can continue to remain competitive in the global economy,” said Lincoln Diaz-Balart, CHLI Chairman.

“We are very thankful of the commitment CHLI is making in providing scholarships for our Hispanic students to attend college and eventually be part of the work force of this great country, Gracias CHLI,” said Harold Lockheimer, National Development Officer-South East Region for the Hispanic Scholarship Fund.
