Rev. King Invited To SCLC Convention

ATLANTA - The Rev. Bernice King has been invited to participate in the convention for the civil right organization she was elected to lead almost a year ago.  The Rev. Markel Hutchins extended the invitation personally.

The Southern Christian Leadership Conference held a separate convention earlier this week, but King did not attend. Last week, she called a prayer vigil seeking reconciliation among the two fighting factions of the SCLC's board of directors.

Hutchins says the conference will feature a gospel concert, a focus on HIV/AIDS and the black community, a dialogue on immigration with black and Latino leaders and a reconciliation rally. Hutchins was named interim president and chief executive officer of the SCLC earlier this year.
