The Labor Department released the August jobs report today showing that while unemployment figures remained unchanged from July's 9.1 percent. Black unemployment climbed to 16.7 percent. This is the highest its been since 1984. A new report released today by the National Council of La Raza (NCLR) shows that Latino children are at a disadvantage when it comes to elementary school. The report shows that in 2009, only 48 percent of Latino four-year-olds attended preschool, compared to 70 percent of White and 69 percent of Black children of the same age. Illinois Police Question Traffic-Stop Study

The 2010 results for a traffic stop study were just released by the Illinois Department of Transportation. The study is supposed to determine whether minority drivers were being stopped and ticketed more often than white drivers in Illinois. Since 2004, every officer who makes a traffic stop is required to fill out a separate form indicating the driver’s race, the reason for the stop, whether the driver was given a ticket or warning and whether the car was searched.
