NEW YORK - Hundreds of New York City taxi drivers, many of them minorities, today took their yellow cabs to City Hall to seek help. They want financial support from the City because of the sharp decline in ridership resulting from the COVID-19 impact. They also are complaining about the increased competition from Uber and Lyft and the fact that their taxi licenses have substantially decreased in value. The taxi licenses, which are issued in limited numbers by the City, once were valued at about one million dollars, but today are only worth a fraction of that amount.
